Cars Collection of H.S.H. the Prince of Monaco

Monaco • Monaco

The car collection started by Prince Rainier III, in a 3,500 m² space on Monaco's harbour. See around 100 cars, from a 1903 De Dion-Bouton to a Lotus F1 car.

About the venue

It started in the Palace garage.

At the end of the 1950s, Prince Rainier III began collecting old cars, and the collection soon outgrew the Palace garage. In 1993 he opened it to the public on the Terrasses de Fontvieille, and in July 2022 it moved to a new 3,500 m² space on Port Hercule, beside the Stade Nautique Rainier III and the Swimming Pool section of the Grand Prix circuit.

Around 100 cars span more than a century of motoring, from a 1903 De Dion-Bouton to the 2013 Lotus E21 Formula 1 car. Hispano-Suiza, Rolls-Royce, Packard, Delage, Delahaye, Napier and Facel Vega share the floor with Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and Alfa Romeo.

Many of the cars carry family history: the 1902 Humber motorcycle ridden by Prince Albert I, the Renault Floride given to Princess Grace in 1959, and the Lexus hybrid landaulet from the 2011 wedding of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene. Rallye Monte-Carlo cars and Monaco Grand Prix Formula 1 cars, some mounted on the walls, cover the motorsport side.

Giant screens show archive films, touchscreens give each car's details, and digital tours take you inside some of the historic vehicles. Temporary exhibitions have featured Ferrari, Bugatti and Porsche.

The collection opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00, and until 19:00 in July and August. It closes on 19 November, Monaco's National Day, on 25 December and during the Grand Prix weeks.
